FAQs

Nosferatu

"Nosferatu" is a 1922 silent horror film directed by F.W. Murnau, which tells the story of a vampire named Count Orlok who moves to Germany in search of new blood. The film's use of expressionist cinematography and special effects, such as stop-motion animation, created a sense of unease and dread that set the standard for many horror films that followed. Lead actor Max Schreck's convincing portrayal of Count Orlok led to rumors that he was a real vampire, and the film was almost lost due to a copyright lawsuit. The haunting musical score was composed by Hans Erdmann and the film was shot on location in several German cities, including the Carpathian Mountains in Slovakia for the Transylvania scenes. "Nosferatu" is now considered a classic of the horror genre that still influences modern horror movies today.
